The World Steel Association predicts that the steel demand will increase by 2.2% to 1886.4 million tons in 2022

2022-01-17

Edwin Basson, director general of the world iron and Steel Association, said in a new year's message recently that with the improvement of vaccination rate and the government's support for epidemic prevention measures, steel demand will recover strongly in 2021 and the recovery will be stronger than expected. Therefore, according to the recent forecast results, the steel demand in 2022 will increase by 2.2% to 1886.4 million tons. The largest steel market comes from the construction industry, which is more flexible than most industries. This trend is expected to continue.

The world iron and Steel Association will fully cooperate with the work of the Glasgow breakthrough agenda project team. The goal of the Glasgow breakthrough agenda steel industry is to make "near zero emission steel" the first choice in the global market, and achieve efficient near zero emission production in all regions by 2030 or before. The agenda will address innovation, procurement, standards, financing and cross cutting issues. 42 countries have launched and approved the Glasgow breakthrough agenda, hoping that the plan will become a reliable attempt to make the slightly noisy climate negotiations more coordinated and orderly.
