JSW steel USA has temporarily idle some steel plant facilities

2020-04-20

According to foreign media reports, on April 16, Beijing time, JSW steel (USA) announced that it would take measures to deal with the impact of covid-19 on the steel demand side. The company will temporarily idle its hot rolling mill and electric arc furnace at Mingo junction steel plant in Ohio for about four weeks and carry out maintenance.

The company will also maintain and repair its Baytown steel pipe plant in Texas between mid May and June to complete a number of maintenance related activities, while the company said it could restart steel plant facilities in a short period of time once market conditions improve.

Due to the impact on JSW USA's business, the company also said it would probably make temporary layoffs in the near future. JSW USA, as a branch of India Jindal group in the United States, is currently the leading steel plant in North America, with an annual production capacity of 1.2 million tons for plates and 450000 tons for pipes.
