Tata Steel sales fell sharply in the first quarter of 2020

On April 22, Beijing time, the first quarter of 2020 report of Tata Steel showed that the sales volume of its Indian business and international business had been affected by covid-19 and had declined.

Sales volume:

In the first quarter of 2020, Tata Steel India Business steel sales volume was 4.03 million tons, down 16.9% month on month, down 14.6% year on year. In the first quarter of 2020, Tata Steel's European business sold 2.37 million tons of steel in the first quarter, basically flat on a month on month basis, down 7.8% year on year.

Production:

In the first quarter of 2020, Tata Steel's steel output in India business was 4.74 million tons, an increase of 6% on a month on month basis and 5.8% on a year-on-year basis. In the first quarter of 2020, the steel output of Tata Steel's European business was 2.56 million tons, an increase of 2% on a month on month basis and a decrease of 6.2% on a year-on-year basis.

In the current fiscal year (Indian fiscal year: April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020), Tata Steel's total steel production in India was 18.21 million tons, up 8.3% year on year. The increase in production is mainly due to the company's expansion of production of Tata Steel BSL and the acquisition of usha Martin steel plant, while Tata Steel Europe's total steel production in the current fiscal year was 10.18 million tons, down 1.2% year on year.
